Hooray, American Politics
Journal Entry: Thu May 8, 2008, 5:06 AM
I don't update all that much anymore - sorry, college is starting soon. However, I wanted to do this (and yes, there will be a deviation about it) THANK YOU HILLARY CLINTON AND YOUR SUPPORTERS. You've made me giggle. You made me laugh my ass off, finally.
Please, don't think I support Mrs. Clinton. Quite the opposite, actually. I don't support Barack Obama either, at least not anymore. I don't because I've gotten sick of all of his "believe in hope" crap. Hope is nice, but it's the same as wishing. I believe the old saying is "wish in one hand and shit in the other, see which comes first". Don't think I'm a conservative, I tend to lean that way on some political opinions but overall I'm a pretty moderate fellow. I believe in gay marriage, proper stem cell use, and withdrawing from Iraq (carefully, mind you). However, I don't believe in Universal Healthcare, I like smaller government, and I hate the idea of being told I'm too fucking stupid to do something myself (Don't smoke or you're going to die! But you're too stupid to know that yourself so lets make laws to stop you!).
By the way, fuck you M.A.D.D.
I know, some of you readers - all none of you - probably think I'm a jerk. Well, let me at least explain my position on Universal Healthcare:
1. It's not free - I know, it's cheaper, but only if you're poor. The richer you are the more taxes they take out - so, in essence, why even bother trying to earn more money if they're going to take more taxes from you and label you as some sort of evil individual simply because you work hard.
2. No Competition - Doctors will get paid much less and of all of the people in the world who I want to be paid less, it's not a doctor. The guy who's looking for tumors? No, thank you. Money is a great way to inspire someone to do something and unless you're promising these Doctors free sex with supermodels, I doubt they're listening.
3. There is NO NEED - I know there are uninsured people... I'm one of them. I've got a hole in one of my back teeth. I've had it since I was 18 because I bit down on something hard and didn't have to money to fix it. I'll give you a different example though: when I was 9 years old my mom got into a horrific accident - the doctors said she was lucky to have even survived the ride to the hospital. For MONTHS she was in so much pain that she had to take daily doses of painkillers - it hurt for her to even shift (her pelvis has broken in 2 places). Her bills reached OVER 80k! At the time she was only making 12k yearly at her job and didn't have insurance. So, how did she pay for it? She didn't. The hospital found out she couldn't afford treatment and treated her anyways. They didn't bill her, not even a penny.
Perhaps I'm biased, but I live in America. I'm not afraid that if I contract some disease or get hurt that no one will help me. In fact, I know they will. When I was a little kid I sprained my leg and even though I was uninsured I got treatment for it without any cost. However, that story, along with the one with my mom, is anecdotal. I suppose, in the end, I don't want to do it because I'm an ass and don't want to pay for YOU. I like to think I have some pride, even though I don't work and go to school, I like to think I'm not so pathetic and that I'm not such an abject failure. Sometimes my tooth hurts, but at least I still have my pride. I don't have to beg for help because I'm too lazy to go and work hard enough to pay for insurance.
What else can I rant about? Should we talk about how America is NOT in a recession or how we are NOT poor. Fucking hell, go talk to some folks in Burma about being poor. OH yeah, and clean fuel is a abject failure! I love that word, abject. Ethanol costs more to make than normal gasoline and causes more pollution. Oh, and those little twirly light bulbs produce high amounts of mercury. Hooray for death!
Sorry, I had to rant. I watched the news and I'm getting pissed. Don't think I'm some right wing conservative. I'm not.
